Plasmalogen in human blood platelets.

چکیده
Plasmalogens have now been identified in a wide variety of organisms (l-3). In studies previously reported, plasmalogens were identified and roughly quantitated (4) in human platelet phosphatides. The present report concerns a precise determination of’plasmalogens in human blood platelets with the use of techniques not previously available. An evaluation of the possible role of plasmalogens in blood coagulation is included, since this material was found to be associated with fractions possessing maximal thromboplastic activity.

Bioactive amide of prostaglandin E1 and ethanolamine plasmalogen analog of platelet-activating factor inhibits several pathways of human platelet aggregation.
The influence of an amide of prostaglandin E1 and ethanolamine plasmalogen platelet-activating factor analog 1-O-alk-1;-enyl-2-acetyl-sn-glycero-3-phospho-(N-11alpha, 15alpha-dioxy-9-keto-13-prostenoyl)ethanolamine (PGE1-PPAF) on platelet-activating factor (PAF)-, ADP-, and thrombin-induced human platelet aggregation has been studied. It was found that PGE1-PPAF inhibits the PAF-, ADP-, and thr...
متن کاملInduction of apoptosis in human tumor cell lines by platelets
Introduction: It has been reported that platelets can eradicate tumor cells in vitro, although the mechanism of this effect has not been determined. The effect of platelets on the induction of apoptosis in tumor cells is largely unknown. Materials and methods: To investigate this effect, two human hematologic cell lines, K562 and Daudi, were independently faced with unstimulated and thromb...
متن کاملPotatoes: Source of Laboratory Reagent for Human Platelets Research
Irish potatoes is rich in carbohydrate, with varied glucose levels. It is also a very good source of apyrase, an enzyme used for platelet storage. The aim of this study was to explore Irish potatoes as an easily available source for apyrase extraction and purification. Apyrase was extracted from 5 Kg of Irish potatoes. Platelets were derived from 5-10 ml of human whole blood and G6PD activity w...
متن کاملMetabolic conversion of platelet-activating factor into ethanolamine plasmalogen in an amnion-derived cell line.
Platelet-activating factor (1-O-alkyl-2-acetyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine, PAF) labeled with 3H in the alkyl side chain was taken up rapidly by amnion-derived WISH cells in culture. The radioactivity was found in a number of cellular metabolites, principally 1-O-alkyl-2-acyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (alkyl-acyl-GPC) which was labeled at a rapid rate. No intracellular accumulation of lyso-PA...

The risk of leukemia and other radiation oriented diseases for astronauts increases with exposure to cosmic radiation. During the space missions, the blood and immune system change and the bones are affected by osteoporosis. In this research, a model, based on the human blood system, is presented for the study of the microgravity and the space radiation effects on the blood cells. This model is...
